Catching Up - Annual Bird Feeding Walk

We have made it a tradition to take a walk to feed the birds whenever we are at my in-laws house for Christmas. Boogs loves going on the hike and finding the best spot to feed the birds. He is very good about waiting patiently for the little chickadees to land on his hand.

Boogs and Daddy decided they should attack me with snowballs at the start of our walk. Luckily, their aim was not so great!

Grandpapa and Grandmaman led the way through the woods.
The snow was very slushy. It was easy to make snowballs.

Boogs and Daddy had a great time playing around with some sticks that they found.

Grandpapa and Boogs patiently waiting for the birds to find their handfuls of seed.

Boogs moved to another spot and soon had birds eating out of his hand.
The chickadees were so fast, it was hard to get a good picture of them.
I was able to feed a few at the bridge.
We took the long way back to the parking lot.
It was a cold, quiet, and beautiful walk.

  1. This looks like a fab way to spend the afternoon, it's great that you all got to go out as a big family and enjoy the fresh air. I can't believe you had birds eating out of your hands, they must be fairly used to humans. Thanks for linking up with Country Kids.

    1. It certainly was nice to be outside. We always enjoy trying to feed the birds.

  2. Oh cool! Wild birds that eat out of your hand! Is this nrmal for this kind of bird? I suppose in that kind of weather might make it easier to entice them.

    1. Every year we go to the same hiking trail to feed the birds. There are permanent bird feeders along the trail that the birds are used to feeding from. I am sure that helps them be less afraid of humans. It took about 15 minutes for the first bird to land on your hand then they started coming more frequently.

  3. What a lovely way to spend the afternoon, how wonderful that the birds eat out of your hands, lovely! #CountryKids

  4. That looks like lots of fun, we've had no snow here to talk of at all. Sorry for late commenting #CountryKids
