Messy Birthday Party

One of Boogs' classmates, the daughter of one of my fellow teachers, had her 5th birthday party yesterday. The theme was "MESSY". Yes, it did have to be spelled with all capital letters. Michelle had the great idea of making the party as messy as possible. She put out several small inflatable kiddie pools and filled them with various messy things...mud, shaving cream, cooked spaghetti noodles, jello, squeezable paint bottles, and bubbles. There was a slip-n-slide and water balloons. She served messy food - sloppy joes, chicken wings, watermelon and even had a mound of cake squares piled on top of each other with messy icing for the birthday cake.  She carried the messy theme through to her pinata. The pull string pinata was filled with goodies and flour. It was a mess! Luckily, there was a designated "mess-free zone" for the parents.  At the end of the party, the kids got to pull all of the streamers off of the trees. They were so cute. Boogs kept winding the streamers around his body like he was a mummy. Boogs had such a good time.

Visiting with Friends

Boogs and I went to see a friend of mine that I have known since the first day of kindergarten. She was in town visiting her mom and invited us over to visit and swim. She has a daughter, "O", who is the same age as Boogs and a one-year-old. Boogs and O got along so well. It was amazing. They played games, read books, followed each other around, and played outside. It was such a nice visit. We swam before and after lunch. Then we walked down the road and fed the neighbor's horse a few carrots. The kids really liked the horse. The one-year-old liked the horse until he took her carrot, then she cried. We had not intended to stay so long and did not leave until bedtime. Boogs fell asleep in the car on the way home and transferred straight into his bed. He was a very tired boy.

Children’s Day Art Park

On Wednesday, Boogs and I were supposed to meet a few friends at the light rail station and take a train to downtown Austin for Children's Day Art Park. Boogs was excited about riding the light rail train for the first time. We got to the station and bought our ticket and THEN found out that there had been a train derailment earlier and the light rail was not running. When our friends got there, we decided to change our adventure to a bus ride downtown instead of a train ride. It took a little convincing, but eventually Boogs was okay with this. He was tired today and he does not like loud noises when he is tired, so the concert part of the Art Day was not a hit with him. He did enjoy the storyteller. He really wanted to get his face painted, so we stood in line for that for about 45 minutes. After all that waiting, Boogs decided to just get a skull painted on his arm. We went with our friends to Hickory Street for lunch before catching the express bus back to our car. It was a fun way to spend the day. I promised Boogs that we will get to ride the light rail sometime this summer.  We did not make it home until 3 pm and I was worn out by then. We had a nice quiet evening and early bedtime.

Busy Weekend

We had a really good weekend. On Friday, Boogs and I went to a swim playdate. Saturday morning, I put Boogs in the stroller while I did a 6 mile walk/run. My hip behaved very well, almost pain free. Boogs had a cd player and headphones and was very patient. After our walk, we stopped at the sandbox park and played in the sand for a little over an hour. Then we had to clean off in the whale bone sprinklers. We were hot, tired, and hungry by the time we got home. My husband took Boogs to the toy store and played with him for awhile before the sitter came over. This is only the second non-family member sitter Boogs has ever had. We went out to dinner for Big Mike's birthday and had a really nice time. It has been a long time since we have seen some of the old group. On Sunday, we all got together at Patrick's for barbeque and swimming. Ended the weekend with some nice, quiet family time.
