Summer Fun

We went to the pool almost every day during the past week. Boogs really liked the pool with the obstacle course. This year, he is big enough to easily make it across.
We went and saw hundreds of Mexican Free Tail Bats fly out from under a bridge.

They boys were disappointed that the bats were flying away from us instead of towards us. I was not at all disappointed with the direction the bats chose.

Boogs went to a free trial class for Tang Soo Do. He really enjoyed it and has decided to attend classes. He said he will keep swimming, but only one day a week so he has time for Tang Soo Do.
This is our last week of summer. Boogs has crammed in a lot of time playing with friends this week. He also built a fort in his playroom. The fort was up for three days (I really needed my kitchen table chairs back so I made him take it down).
Apparently, the fort was the home of this strange little alien creature. Boogs' Halloween costume from last year still fits.

Boogs is very sad for summer to be over and not ready to see the new school year begin. We went to Open House at his school tonight to meet his new teacher. Boogs is happy about the teacher he will have for third grade, but he said he wished it were the last day of school so summer could start all over again.

  1. I think I would like to start summer all over again too! A lovely post and a fabulous pool, my kids would love that climbing rope bridge. What a fun place to be. I'd be with you on seeing the bats fly away but what an amazing sight. Wishing Boogs all the best for 3rd grade. Thank you for sharing your end of summer day out on Country Kids.

  2. That obstacle course looks fab, and I would have loved to see the bats, though I would also have been glad to see them fly away too...! My boys go back to school next week too, and my oldest starts third grade :) The summer has gone so quickly! #CountryKids

    1. I have a strong fear of bats getting tangled in my hair so I was very happy they did not fly our way. Good luck to your boys in the new school year.

  3. I wouldn't have been disappointed with the bat's flight direction either! I once had one in my room as a kid and it was so hard to catch it and I used 2 tennis rackets as I didn't want to squash it. Hadn't thought of that memory in years! Looks like a fun time was had!

    1. Yikes, good job catching it. We have a large bat population in our area. When I was teaching full time, we frequently had to call out animal control to remove bats from the school building.

    1. It is a great pool. There is a water playscape, slides, a high tunnel slide, and a jumping/diving platform.

    1. The bridge in these pictures has a small bat population compared to one of the bridges in downtown Austin. It is really neat to watch them stream out from under the bridge.
