Trinity Oaks Outdoor Day

On Saturday, my husband and Boogs attended an outdoor day sponsored by Trinity Oaks. Trinity Oaks is a nonprofit organization "founded on the premise that active participation in the outdoors is a powerful, healing, and fundamentally life-changing experience". The organization contributes to veterans, underprivileged youth, and also processes/donates thousands of pounds of game meat to address food insecurities and hunger in Texas. The event included fishing, shooting a long rifle at paper targets, learning survival skills, shooting at flying clay targets, driving an ATV, and shooting a compound bow.
Boogs' aim is getting pretty good.

He was really excited about driving an ATV four-wheeler. My husband noticed that Boogs drives like his momma. Only one cone jumped in front of Boogs. (I always say things jump in front of me. :-) Boogs said it was fun to drive but scary being a passenger when the other kids were driving.

Learning how to start a fire with a flint fire starter. They rubbed petroleum jelly on a cotton ball to catch the spark and get the flame going.

Boogs thinks fishing in a tank is a bit boring. He likes fishing at the lake.

The compound bow was the last event. Boogs said he was worn out by the time it was his turn at the bow station.
Daddy and Boogs had a great day despite the heat. There were several talks about helping others, hunting of overpopulated deer areas, donating game meat, anti-bullying, and enjoying the outdoors.

  1. Looks like a great day out, I love seeing children out and about rather than sat in front of a screen #countrykids@_karendenbid199@gmail is

    1. We try to keep him busy so we won't have an issue with screen time.

  2. That does look like a great day out. I’m very impressed with Boogs’ aim on that target. Driving the ATV sounds like it was fun too but yes I can imagine it was a little nerve-wracking when other kids were driving. Thanks for linking to #CountryKids

  4. What an amazing event and all in such a good cause. I do love the community projects you get involved with. I can understand the fishing pool not being too exciting compared to what you are used to but the rest looks lots of fun especially the driving. #CountryKids

    1. It was the first time he had driven an ATV. I was surprised he only ran over one cone.
