Hill Country Flyer

My sister-in-law (J) and her husband (R) are in town for awhile. We spent Saturday on the Hill Country Flyer, a steam engine train ride from Cedar Park to Burnet. It is a two-hour train ride each way. Boogs and I really enjoyed standing on the back of the last car, feeling the breeze, and watching the scenery roll by.

Getting ready to board the train.

Finding our seats.

Daddy, Boogs, J, and R.

Standing on the back platform.

Miles and miles of track.

Boogs loved standing here.

It was a bit windy.

My big and little sweeties.

The Burnet Gunfighter Association presented their Wild West Gunfight Show.

Boogs in jail. I was worried his head would get stuck, it didn't.
It was a fun way to spend the day. We were all tuckered out by the time we returned home.

  1. We've never done the train; I think it really looks like fun. Maybe we'll go with relatives sometime!

  2. The train leaves at 10 a.m. and you get back around 3:30 p.m. It is a nice little trip.

  3. I love the way you can stand at the back there, my six would all have been fighting for that position! Trains are great fun for children. We have our very own train ride for the children coming to Coombe Mill this winter. Hopefully all the children staying will have a little mini ride each day as part of their stay! Thank you for sharing your day out on Country Kids.

    1. I probably stood on the back platform for an hour on the way to Burnet. It was lovely to watch the scenery go by and feel the train rumble under my feet. Your mini train sounds like fun.

  4. Lovely photos, and so different to a train journey in this country. The view from the back of the train looks a great spot to watch the scenery roll by.

  5. Train rides are great aren't they, loved reading about you feeling the breeze as you watched the tracks go by. And thanks for sharing on Happy Family Times.

  6. Wow, that is a fantastic train ride to experience. In the UK our vintage steam trains don't have those back platforms, what an amazing feeling to see the tracks appearing from uner your feet and rolling away behind you.

    1. Hanging out on the back of the train was the best part of the day. I stood out there for at least an hour each way.
