Four years ago, Boogs and I visited Umlauf Sculpture Garden. You can see the post here. This time we did some of the same activities - scavenger hunt, salt water taffy sculpture, sketching our favorite sculpture, walking the grounds, and learning more about the artwork.
Last time we came, I created a scavenger hunt because I did not know they offered one. During this visit, we used the one provided at the visitor center.
While we were there, Boogs measured himself against a sculpture called The Diver. Boogs was 7-years-old when we went last time and he was almost the exact same size as the statue.
I thought it would be neat to see how much he has grown since we last visited.
Look how much his arm has grown.
Taffy "sculpture" of The Diver.
Boogs still liked the Icarus sculpture. Last time he said it was his favorite sculpture in the garden. This time, he decided he liked The Diver best.It was a beautiful afternoon to wander around the shady grounds of Umlauf Sculpture Garden.
It is hard to believe that Boogs is now a great big 11-year-old. Sometimes I wish I could turn back or slow down time. But then I realize what an amazing, thoughtful, and fun young man Boogs is becoming and I look forward to the future and all the changes that come with it as I watch him grow into a man.

Ah 11 years old, he is indeed just on the cusp of change. Another 3 years and he will have shot up in height and his feet too! Lovely to return somewhere you have enjoyed in the past and compare the then and now photos, I hope you both go back again for the next measure up in a few years. I hope you found everything on your scavenger hunt list too.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing with me on #CountryKids
We definitely plan on returning again in a few years. Thanks for hosting Country Kids.
DeleteSo nice that you can get really up close to the sculptures and loads of fun for the ids to copy the poses and get involved. Mich x
ReplyDeleteUmlauf Sculpture Garden is a family friendly place to visit. Admission is free during the summer and one Sunday a month.
DeleteLooks like lots of fun here. It is great having something to compare your self with as you grow. My kids use to love doing things like that. #CountryKids

DeleteWhat a great place to explore. I love all the comparison photos, you often don't realise just how much they've grown do you #CountryKids
ReplyDeleteTime is going by too fast. It is neat to see the comparison because you don't realize how they have grown when you are with them every day.
DeleteWhat an excellent idea to measure against a statue! Looks a fascinating space
ReplyDeleteThanks. It is a beautiful place to visit.
DeleteHow lovely to be able to compare the two visits and see how Boogs has grown! Looks like a lovely place, we have a Sculpture Garden near us and it's a favorite of mine. #countrykids

ReplyDeleteI found it hard to believe it had been four years since our last visit. It really does not seem that long ago.
