I keep meaning to write a post for the little adventures Boogs and I went on during the past two summers. Summer 2023 he needed to get in his driving practice hours on his learner's permit. He drove us to several small towns within an hours drive from our home. In Summer 2024, he said he really enjoyed our little day trips and asked if we could do them again. Here are some pictures from those outings.
Liberty Hill Sculpture Park and lunch at Dahlia Cafe. The Liberty Hill Sculpture Park was put in place in 1976. It has 27 pieces by artists from 6 different countries.
Boogs enjoys walking around sculpture gardens. |
You can see how the sculptures have weathered over the years. |
I asked Boogs to take my picture and this is what he did. |
After the sculpture garden, we headed over to a local favorite cafe for lunch. The food was delicious and the deserts were even better. First time I had ever tried Buttermilk Pies. It was sweet and tasty.
Wimberley, TX has lots of little shops and a popular swimming area. Boogs just wanted to wander around the town and in and out of the shops.
Of course we had to buy a few things at the candy store.
We visited several galleries in town. There is a large artist community in and near Wimberely.
We had the lunch special at Wimberely Cafe. Yum!
Boogs and I enjoyed wandering in and out of all the buildings.
The have about 200 buggies. Some date back to the early 1800s.
There are also different kinds of carts that were pulled by horses, donkeys, and goats.
2023 Marble Falls - It was a white knuckle drive to Marble Falls. We took this trip when Boogs was starting to drive on bigger roads and longer drives. I purposely choose taking the "back way" to Marble Falls because the road had no shoulders. Boogs was having a tendency to ride to the far left of the lane and even out of his lane. I had him drive this road so he would feel the tires start to leave pavement if he drifted too far left. It worked! It helped him figure out how to stay in the middle of his lane. We went to a used book store call Books. It was stuffed floor to ceiling and every nook and crannie with books, puzzles, and knick knacks. After spending too much money on books and puzzles, we had lunch. Boogs asked me to drive home.
Balcones Canyonland National Wildlife Refuge - Boogs drove us to hike as one of our favorite trails.
Boogs drove us to Bastrop to check out he Good Tings Happen In Bookstores shop. It was a neat little place and had a couple of cats roaming around.
We had lunch at Gracie's before heading to Film Alley to bowl.
Finally the day came and he passed his driver's license.
Waco
Start of summer break 2023. We stayed in a bed and breakfast in Hutto with the Jboys.
Boogs bought his own first car and was ready to hit the road.
