Since we have been in the apartment, Boogs and I have not worked on a lot of art. There is carpet everywhere and I don't have a hose/backyard for washing down the art mat. We did get around to doing a little bit of fingerprint art after checking a cute little book out of the library. When I was a kid, I LOVED the Ed Emberley thumbprint books. I think I still have one somewhere. Thumbprint Critters is a very similar book. Boogs really enjoyed working on this art.

Treasure Box

 A couple of weeks ago, Boogs and I bought an unpainted "treasure box" from Michael's. Boogs finally wanted to paint it this week. Of course he chose orange, his favorite color. After the box dried, we played Treasure Hunt. Boogs decorated eight pieces of paper with ink and stamps and I wrote clues on the back of each page. Each clue led to the next clue's hiding spot, with the final clue leading Boogs to the treasure box. The clues had Boogs moving a different way to get to each new place. They said things like "run to the place where your Science equipment lives", "hop on one foot and peek behind the smallest sofa", "crawl to the place where you pick out your night time story". He had a great time following the clues to his treasure. Inside the treasure box was a single marshmallow. Boogs wanted to play this game over and over again.

 

Goop!

One of Boogs all-time favorite things to do is play with goop. It always amazes me that a little bit of cornstarch, water, and food coloring can keep him entertained for over an hour. It makes a HUGE mess, but the clean-up is fairly easy. When he was finished playing with the goop, I took Boogs and his art mat outside and hosed them down.

After Boogs got washed off with the hose, he wanted to make rainbows. You can barely see the rainbow in this picture.

He also figured out how to step on the hose sprayer to get the perfect size stream of water to make his grass root dance.

Making Playdough

Boogs and I signed up to make playdough for his preschool class. They asked for red, strawberry scented playdough.  We ended up with a color between pink and red. Thanks to a package of Kool-Aid, it definitely has a strawberry scent. This is my favorite playdough recipe:

Flour 3cups

Salt 1 1/2 cups
Water 3 cups
Vegetable Oil 2TB.
Cream of tartar 1TB.
Food coloring few drops or unsweetened "Kool-Aid" 1pkg.

Mix ALL of the ingredients in a large saucepan.
Cook over medium low heat, until the dough comes away
from the edges of the pan and it becomes difficult to move the spoon. Remove from heat. Cool until it can be handled.
Place on counter or wax paper knead 3-4 times.

Store in an air tight container.

It always comes out great and stays nice through MULTIPLE play times.

Lakeshore Teacher Store

Lakeshore has craft days every Saturday. We occasionally have time to swing by. Boogs got to make a megaphone for his craft this time. He was so precise with how he placed the tape on his cup. After he finished the craft, he told me it did not work very well because it didn’t make his voice too much louder.

Boogs' Picture Collage

In Boogs' preschool class, the kiddos were given a stack of magazines to cut out any pictures they wanted to glue on a single piece of paper. All of the other kids in the class chose pictures of cute cuddly animals. This is what my son chose. He told his teacher that he really liked the top center picture because "it looks like that person wants to be a cat". If you look closely you will see "whiskers" coming out the side of that person's nose. He liked the guy with the camera because he likes to be in the snow at Grandmaman and Grandpapa's house. The bottom center picture was chosen because it was "really interesting to paint like that on your face and not just on paper".  Boogs' is always interesting. I have not been bored since he started signing then speaking his first words.
