Magnetic Board

About a month ago, I found this post about using an oil pan as a magnetic board on Pinterest. I finally got around to purchasing one yesterday at Walmart for $10. I knew it would be perfect for using Boogs' magnetic sight words that he got for Christmas. When he opened them on Christmas day, he was less than thrilled. He said, "What! You got me sight words for a Christmas present?" He loves to be read to, but is still a bit of a reluctant reader.

When he came home from school yesterday, he immediately noticed the magnetic board. He said, "Look someone left me a message!" He was so excited to read it. I changed the words after dinner so he would have something new to read this morning. And then tonight, we spent about 15 minutes building various sentences with the words.
When we were reading the 3rd
sentence, there was an "s" after
the word "want". It must have
gotten moved before I took this
picture.
The board is a big as Boogs.

He is now having a good time with his sight word Christmas present...all it took was a jumbo magnetic board to make it fun. His favorite sentence tonight was "who put it on the cat". After Boogs read it, he looked at the other magnetic words and found the word "small" to place before the word "cat" in our sentence. Then he looked at me and asked, "What is IT? Who put what on the cat? I have to know!" This led him into some story telling to let me know who, what, where, when, and how IT happened to the cat. So much fun! I am definitely going to go back to Terra Toys and get the other big-sized magnetic word kits. A friend of mine told me that she has magnetic tape that works in her label maker. I have a label maker in one of my old teacher boxes. I will have to locate it and see if I can get magnetic tape for it.

Observations by Boogs

Boogs has been giving me an earful of interesting information this week. I wrote down a few things he said. His observations make me smile.

Superfinder is back. He is Boogs’ made-up super hero. This week I learned that “Superfinder has a sidekick robot named Superdog. Superdog can crack where bad robots are standing with his bark. The bad robots fall into the middle of the earth and melt.”

“If you have a very bad inspection (infection) you have to go to the hospital.”

“When I get a guitar and start playing, we will have to soundproof my room.”

“Telephones came after that old-time tap tap tap way to send messages.”

Boogs was a Buddy Buck instant winner at the grocery store. He got to go pick out a prize at the customer service desk. He chose a bowl and spoon set with the HEB Buddy character on it. He asked me what the sticker on the bottom of the bowl was for. I told him it was to identify the bowl and then read it to him. I read that it was made in China. He yelled out in a shocked voice, “What? Made in China! Then I can’t lick the bowl. It has that bad Chinese paint.”  So we had a discussion about food-safe products.

“I love licking bowls, but in a glass the bottom is too far away from your tongue to lick it. My favorite thing to lick out of bowls is pudding.”

Boogs – Can solid gold move?
Me – Only when it is heated into its liquid form.
Boogs – King Midas could make solid gold move. He took old milk and made it gold milk. His was liquid gold.

“Remember in the old days and we didn’t try to sell our house? Now we have a lot of meetings. I miss that.”

Interesting Comparisons

Boogs has been into comparisons A LOT lately. Sometimes they make sense and sometimes they don't. Here are a few of my favorites:

This is going to be as boring as eating a green pea. (while waiting for me to get a haircut)

Whew, the sun makes me feel as hot as a bee in a lunchbox.

I am as fast as a bulldog.

Superfinder is smarter than a jackal. (after hearing the story of The Tiger and the Brahmin)

My playroom is as messy as a barn.

Not a comparison - while talking about The Tiger and the Brahmin, Boogs told me that the jackal and the Brahmin had to "un-smart" the tiger.  I told him the word to use is "outsmart". He argued and said, "No, Momma. They had to un-smart him because he was smart. Not outsmart him cause he was not in-smart."

There are so many other comparisons he has made lately, but I have forgotten to scribble them down. They make me laugh and then I forget them. Usually we are in the car when he says these gems. I love my boy!
