Holiday Wrap-Up Part 2

For Boogs, our visit was all about the snow. He LOVED being outside.

Rolling around in the front yard.

Making snow angels.

Walks around the Perley.

Leaping into the snow.

Boogs was trying to throw a snowball at me while leaping off of a small snowbank.

Our traditional hike to feed the birds.

Boogs was very patient. Unfortunately, there were not birds here. We kept walking to the next spot on the trail where we have had luck finding the birds in previous years.

When Boogs got tired, I gave him a ride.

The chickadees will land right on your hand to grab a few sunflower seeds.
The trail was beautiful.

These birch trees had fallen over and we almost did not recognize our usual trail turn off.

Daddy and Boogs enjoying the cold air.

Oh no! Daddy pulled on the tree branch when I was trying to get a picture of Boogs with Grandmaman.

We took a ferry across the river into Quebec to visit friends.

Boogs spent almost 2 1/2 hours playing in their backyard. The top of his boots were filled with ice, but he did not seem to mind.

Thank you for a lovely visit, good food, and good conversation.

My husband wanted to go geocaching while we were there. He and Boogs had picked up a tracked tag at a geocache in Texas and wanted to leave it in Ottawa. My husband was not able to find the geocache this day, but several days later he and his dad went out and successfully found a different one.

Boogs put his toboggan to good use.

This did not end well!!!

The snow was too powdery and deep for a good slide at Boogs' regular little hill.

Boogs said he would live in Canada just to go tobogganing every day.

Holiday Wrap-up Part 1

What did we do during the holiday? Here's the answer (mostly in pictures):
I finally remembered to take a picture of this year's Gingerbread House.

Boogs made an ornament for Daddy.

Boogs' new skateboard.

My husband gave me a Discovery Flight. "You will fly the aircraft with an experienced instructor and learn first-hand how easy it is to become a pilot. You will learn how aircraft operate, conduct a pre-flight of an aircraft, and actually take the controls, all under the guidance of a top-quality FAA certified instructor."

Wahoo, we are going to experiment with a new chemistry lab.
My husband got a new light for his office.
We drove from our house to Dallas, spent the night in a hotel, and then flew out of DFW to Canada. On the drive to Dallas, our car's coolant light went on. We made it to our hotel, but our car had a bad radiator leak. We left it at the hotel and were later able to make arrangements for a repair shop to tow the car and repair it so it would be ready for us upon our return to Dallas. We had to FedEx the key to the repair shop. Luckily, everything worked out perfectly.

When we arrived at the Ottawa airport, Aunt Jo had antlers for Boogs.

The first thing Boogs wanted to do when we arrived at Grandmaman and Grandpapa's house was to roll in the snow.

Cutesy found his way to Ottawa for one last visit. Apparently, he had to parachute in. He left Boogs an activity calendar to help count down the days until his return in December 2013.

Lots of snow!!!

Boogs enjoyed sledding. He did not mind the cold temperature at all.

He loved playing in the snow. He would have stayed outside all night if I would have let him.

Ready to go tobogganing.

Grandpapa made a delicious turkey for Christmas Dinner.

While visiting relatives, Boogs and I worked on this straw and connector structure. We needed extra help to get it standing up straight.

It was a bit shaky, but it did not fall over.

We spent a lovely evening visiting at Grandmama's sister's house.

Boogs spent hours putting together this Lego Spaceship. He was so patient with it.

Tada! It is finished!
Boogs lost a tooth!

The tooth fairy left American and Canadian money and Daddy's friend gave Boogs some tooth money, too.
Of course we made time to visit the library!

We had fun playing games with Grandmaman and Grandpapa.

We even had a bit of arts and crafts time.

Wreck This Journal

We were in Canada with my husband's family for the past two weeks. I will post pictures of our visit later. Today, I am sharing my favorite gift that we gave Boogs this year. It is a book by Keri Smith called Wreck This Journal. Each page in the book gives instructions for a different way to wreck it. I bought one for Boogs and one for myself so that we could do this together. Boogs really likes this book.

The red paint on his nose is from face painting at school. I could not get all of it off of Boogs' nose.
Holding the journal open with his foot so he could poke holes with a pencil.

A page full of holes.

He wrote "that hurts" by the largest hole.

The next page he wanted to do was Journal Golf.

We saved the page so he can play it again.

We took the book with us to Canada. Boogs tore out the page that instructed him to make a drinking funnel.

He was very excited to fill it with water and see if it would work.
Success!
Another page instructed you to make a paper chain.

Boogs is enjoying messing up his journal. I told him we had to wait to get back home before he could do the really messy things to it. Things that involve spilling food/drinks, throwing paint, vegetable prints, etc. I look forward to seeing what he wants to do next.
