My Little Chef

Boogs was playing with an old sticker book that had Ratatouille in it, a rat who cooks.

He turned to a page that had different types of food and decided that he wanted to make dinner using some of those ingredients.

He decided to make soup. Boogs told me exactly what he wanted to put in the soup. He helped cut up some of the ingredients and helped add everything to the pot. He used beef stock, two shakes of parmesan cheese, celery, onions, mushrooms, carrots, and a few spices.

The verdict: "Not bad but I kind of like it and I kind of don't." He ate about 5 spoonfuls and then asked if he could have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich instead.

Fall Festival at School

We went to Boogs' school festival this past weekend. He had a good time but he told me that, "festivals were more fun when I was little". Here are a few pics:

Lunches Oct. 17th - 21st

Boogs chose to have a few story lunches instead of all Halloween lunches this week. By Thursday, he said he was getting a little creeped out by Halloween this year. He had fun helping design his lunch each day.

Mouse's First Fall lunch - ham & cheese leaves, acorn cereal bar, boiled egg mouse, veggies with mice cucumbers, blueberries, and applesauce.

Big Pumpkin lunch - mummy dogs, cheese mummy hands, carrot mummy fingers, fruit, and yogurt.

2 x 2 = Boo lunch - almond butter & jelly bat sandwiches, Babybel full moon, "creepy" grapes, and an "eek" salad. Boogs' comment this morning, "Momma, I am sorry but I have to tell you that this lunch is not really creepy. When am I going to have a REALLY creepy lunch?"

Graveyard lunch (no book today) - tombstone ham, zombie finger cheese, broccoli bushes, dead tree (zucchini bread & cocoa almonds), and monster apples. Boogs said, "Only the apples are creepy. It is better than yesterday."

The Secret Shortcut lunch - carrots with swampy goo (hummus), pb&j crocodile chasing the two boys, strawberries, and yogurt.

Sweet Berry Farms

Sweet Berry Farm Flashback 2006, Boogs 1st Halloween

Last Friday, we took Boogs out of school a little bit early so we could take a family trip to Sweet Berry Farm. It has become one of our Fall traditions to go to Sweet Berry Farm to pick our pumpkin, go through the Texas Corn Maze, feed the goats, have pumpkin ice cream and take a ton of pictures. We had a new record for finishing the maze. It took us 46 minutes. One year it took 3 1/2 hours, this was a great improvement.

Boogs' 1st School Lunch

Boogs bought his lunch at school today. He was so excited. He has repeatedly told me that ALL the other kids in his class get to eat the cafeteria lunch every day. We made a deal over three weeks ago that if he remembered to bring home his lunchbox everyday for 5 days in a row, he could have a school lunch. He would bring the lunchbox home for a couple of days, forget it, and then have to start all over again. Here are a few pics of his "appetizing" school lunch - pears in syrup, chicken "patty" sandwich, cooked broccoli, orange slices, and chocolate milk. He generally eats a LOT more of his homemade meals that he did of this school lunch. While he was eating, he asked if his next lunch could be a Halloween lunch from home. Yes it can!

Lunches October 10th - 14th

Only three lunches to share this week. Monday was Columbus Day so Boogs did not have school. Today he is buying the school lunch for the first time. I am going to have lunch with him to see if actually eats any of it.

A Monkey Among Us lunch - Pb&j monkey sandwich, yogurt, monster costume veggies, "Happy Tuesday" banana. 

If I Built A Car lunch - boiled egg car, Robert the Robot onigiri (rice ball), soy sauce, salad, and oranges. Unfortunately, Boogs did not put the lid back on the soy sauce container and it spilled all over the inside of his lunchbox. I cannot get the soy sauce smell out of there. Any suggestions? This is Boogs’ favorite book. He loves to look at the details of the car’s design and talk about what improvements he would make to the car.

My Garden lunch - pb&j flower and bunny sandwiches, cheese flowers & shells, chocolate bunny graham crackers, broccoli "jellybean" tree, berries with kiwi flowers. Boogs wants a garden like the girl in this book. Her garden has chocolate bunnies, she uses seashells as seeds, and flowers are able to grow in the place of ones just picked. Boogs told me what food to use for the jellybean tree. He likes to help create these lunches.

Boogs' 1st Encounter with a Toad

This past weekend, the rain brought a visitor to our yard. A fat little toad hopped across the grass to the delight of my 5-year-old. He had never been that close to a toad. Boogs wanted me to pick it up for him. I told him he could pick it up himself if he were very gentle. I also told him that toads tended to urinate on whoever was holding them. I have never heard such giggles of glee from Boogs. He loved trying to catch and hold the toad. Sure enough, it did pee on him.
