Sledding At Mooney's Bay 2018

We spent Christmas in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada this year. Boogs really missed the snow when Grandmaman (GM) and Grandpapa (GP) came down to Texas for Christmas last year. We arrived at my in-laws' house at 1:30 a.m. on Christmas Day. After a few hours of sleep, we had breakfast, opened presents, and then the call of snow to my son's heart was so strong that we had to go sledding at Mooney's Bay. There were not that many people sledding on Christmas Day.
Decisions to make: toboggan or saucer, big hill or little hill
Daddy and Boogs racing down the little hill

Boogs and me on the little hill. I had my knee brace on and couldn't bend my leg to fit all the way on the saucer.

It was a long tough climb back up the big hill. My guys went dow the big hill many, many times. I only went once. It was too hard for me to climb back up.

Much easier to get back up the little hill

The weather was perfect for sledding, 12 F (-11 C), cold and sunny.
Boogs wore a smile like this for the entire three hours we were at the hill.

Sledding on New Year's Eve was an entirely different experience! There was pure ice at Mooney's Bay Hill. You did not even need a sled to slide down the hill. We had so much fun! I can't remember the last time we all laughed so hard or for so long. We only went down the little hill.
Boogs was our guinea pig, we let him try out sledding without a sled before we tried it out. In case you were wondering, it was a water bottle that fell out of Boogs' jacket pocket on his way down the hill.

Boogs chose to twist and spin all the way down the hill. He loved it!

I tried to film Daddy sliding down the hill. His pants were more slippery than mine so he was able to catch up and bang into me before we made it to the bottom of the hill. I could not control which way I was facing and kept spinning backwards.

Our view going down the hill.

Family Slide - Daddy was facing backwards to film us, Boogs in the middle, and I was the caboose. Boogs pushed us both away so he could slide on his own. He is so funny. We did not get a lot of pictures/video of him this day because he was so fast to go back up and then down the hill.

We each tried the hill on the saucer. Man, was it fast! It sounded like an airplane was flying overhead. This was my second time down the hill on the saucer. The first time, I didn't bail off the saucer fast enough and hit the hay bales pretty hard. The hay was supposed to protect you from hitting the fence but the hay bales were frozen as hard as rocks.
What a fun way to endure enjoy a cold day!

    1. For some reason, frozen hay bales aren't very soft. :-)

  2. It looks so cold yet beautiful with the clear blue skies. I love the happiness on Boogs face and Daddy is a good sport too. It would be just the same here if we had snow. Fingers crossed for a little over the next couple of months, even my teens plus will be out enjoying it. #CountryKids

    1. At home, we never see snow deep enough to play in. Boogs always enjoys being in the snow. He is so active, he rarely gets cold.

  4. Love that you got to enjoy a white Christmas and go sledding on Christmas Day. I cannot remember the last time I went sledding - we rarely get enough snow to make it possible here! Sledding on the ice on New Year's Eve looks like so much fun and you all look like you enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing with #CountryKids

    1. It is a lucky treat for us to go sledding. There isn't always snow when we visit for Christmas.

    1. It is always better to have a sunny day, but we still enjoyed sledding on the dreary icy day, too.
