Finally, A Change In the Weather

Whew, we have had some nasty weather in Texas over the past couple of weeks. We have been in a drought for the past four years. The rain we've had over the past few weeks has caused severe flooding in central Texas. Last Sunday, my husband, Boogs, and I went for a walk to check out a nearby creek.
 Several roads were closed.
The hiking path was completely underwater.
It was nice to get outside and have a bit of sunshine for the day.

The day after our hike was Memorial Day. My friend and I had planned on meeting up to take our kids to the pool. The weather forecast said there was a 90% chance of thunderstorms. So we took the kids to an indoor trampoline playground. They had fun playing dodge ball, jumping, and riding the mechanical bull.
It started raining heavily that afternoon. I put a movie on upstairs for the boys then my friend and I  sat on my back porch and listened to the rain and watched the weather radar. Tornado warning sirens started going off while we were on the porch. I made sure the closet under the stairs had room for all seven of us. Luckily, we did not need it. We did not have a tornado touch down in my immediate area, but there were touch downs not too far away. The sky looked pretty green for awhile and it rained like crazy. My neighborhood did not flood. But many areas in Texas did.
In the middle of the night, we had a huge wind and thunderstorm. When I drove Boogs to school the next day, there were at least 8 backyard fences knocked down on our mile route to school. It rained most of the rest of the week.

This weekend the sun finally came out. We took advantage of the amazing weather and went on a family bike ride to a park. I don't know who had more fun at the park, Daddy or Boogs. They ran hard and played hard.
After all that running, climbing, and jumping, we left the park with only one minor injury. I'm glad we had this beautiful day to spend together.
Only one week of school left. Boogs and I are ready for our summer vacation to begin!!!

  1. I heard about the Texas weather and tornadoes on the news this week - sounds like you had a lucky escape! I like a good storm in the UK, but I think the ones you've had are in a different league. #countrykids

    1. It has been a very interesting Spring. We were lucky to escape the damage that befell others in nearby communities.

  3. Oh my goodness it really does sound like you have been inundated with some awful weather. I can't imagine having to have a safe room in the house for a tornado risk! Thank goodness it all passed with no flooding for you and a chance to get out and enjoy the lovely sunshine again. Thank you for sharing a little insight into Texas and its wild weather with me on Country Kids.

    1. It was kind of funny seeing some of my friends post pictures of their families wearing sport helmets while hanging out in pantries, bathtubs, and closets. I don't personally know anyone whose house was damaged by the recent weather (other than a few shingles/fences). We were fortunate.
