Lunches March 31st to April 4th

Boogs lunches are inspired by the books we read together. Boogs' birthday is coming up this weekend. I can't believe he is turning 8. We read birthday themed books this week at bedtime and used them to inspire Boogs' school lunches. We like to pack our lunches in ELBs and Laptop Lunchboxes.

Moira's Birthday by Robert Munsch
This is such a fun birthday book. Moira wants to invite "Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 4, Grade 5, Grade 6, aaaaand kindergarten" to her birthday party. Her father told her she could only invite six people. Well, she ended up inviting everyone. There were kids in every room of the house and on the roof. Boogs' favorite part to read was the list of foods the kids brought to the party... "fried goat, rolled oats, burnt toast, and artichokes; old cheese, baked fleas, boiledbats, and beans. There was eggnog, pork sog, simmered soup, and hot dogs; jam jars, dionsaurs, chocolate bars, and stew." I asked him if he wanted me to include these items in his lunch. Of course he said no. Moira's party turns into a huge mess but her clever idea gets everything cleaned up in a jiffy.

In the ELB lunchbox: homemade pizza, confetti colored salad with carrot & red pepper streamers, raspberry balloons, and kiwi. I also sent yogurt in his lunch bag.

Happy Birthday to You! by Dr. Seuss

Boogs' Grandmaman put him to bed on Tuesday so she read him this book.  It is a fun rhyming read about celebrating your birthday with the Great Birthday Bird from Katroo.

In the ELB lunchbox: Great Birthday Bird cheese on top of ham, pistachios, goldfish, yogurt raisins, bagel with cream cheese & sprinkles, berries, and salad.

Bunnicula and Friends: Creepy-Crawly Birthday by James Howe
Oh that Chester is causing trouble again. When Harold overhears Toby talking about a secret birthday surprise, Chester,  Harold, and Howie must try to figure out the secret. They find seven odd little suitcases in the closet and some of them appear to have eyes. When the pets are discovered, they get put in the basement. Chester decides they must discover what was in those boxes. Chaos ensues when the creepy crawly snake, bat, frog, lizard, rat, and other animals are released into the party by the pets. What a mess! Eventually, the pets discover the actual secret surprise and are pleased with it. This was a good book for practicing making predictions. Some of Boogs' predictions were pretty out there.

In the Laptop Lunchbox: Howie pick in salad, bat pick with summer sausage & cheese, Harold candy with balloons on a marshmallow, crackers, yogurt, applesauce, and salad dressing.

Happy Birdday, Tacky! by Helen Lester
The penguins of Nice Icy Land want to throw Tacky the perfect party. Despite their carefully made plans, Tacky turns their perfect plans upside down with his unique way of doing things. He even invents his own new dance. Boogs likes Tacky stories. You never know what that little penguin will do next.

In the ELB lunchbox: pb&j penguin sandwich with party hat, summer sausage, Goldfish crackers, salad, berries, and kiwi.
