First Day of 1st Grade

Boogs headed off to 1st Grade this morning. I think I was more nervous about it than he was. I am going to miss my boy! Our morning ran smoothly. Boogs woke up at 5:55. I am so glad that I don't have to wake him up in the mornings during the school year. (During the summer, I wish he would sleep in until at least 7 a.m.)

I can't believe he has gotten so big!

He said, "Just take the picture real quick."

Just like last year's first day of school lunch, today's lunch was inspired by The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn.

Boogs said he had a good day at school but could not think of a single thing to tell me about his day. Little stinker. I asked a couple of different ways and he gave me a silly smirk and said, "Nunya! That is all you will get out of me." Hmmmmm... maybe it hasn't been such a good idea to tell him 'Nunya', as in nun ya business, when I am discussing grown-up things with his dad.  Oh well. Later, he let me know that he had a good day.

Last year after his first day of kindergarten, we went to the bookstore and Boogs got to choose a book. We did that again this year. Overall, Boogs had a great start to 1st Grade!

  1. Sounds like such a special day! I love the idea of getting a book after the first day of school.

And yes, I have heard of lapbooks! Ann has been talking to me about them and sent me some links. I think we will do some this year; it sounds like a good creative/educational activity that we'd both enjoy.

  3. He's so lovely Keitha! He reminds me of so many Finnish little ones, bright eyes and white blonde hair, so cute! The kissing and sounds like another book to add to the collection (Hello Amazon!) And of course I adore the "bento book report" that sums it all up!

  4. JDaniel didn't share much about his first day either. We have heard a few things, but not much! I love the tradition of getting a book on the first day for school.

    1. It makes me a little sad that he is pulling away from me even though I know it is what needs to happen. I loved looking through the Back to School Traditions link up. Thanks for hosting it.

    1. I taught preschool for 5 years. It was so cute to see the little ones come in. They were usually very excited at orientation day and then very nervous on the first full day of preschool.

  7. Oh my goodness the Nunya conversation made me crack up! I hate when our words come back and bite us in the butt. ;) I love the lunch, what a lovely tradition. Thank you for linking up to The Sunday Showcase.
